Afican village 1 1 - Fostering Connections

We pride ourselves on being a village. We are there for you every step of the way.

“It takes a village to raise a child…” originates from an African proverb and conveys the message that it takes many people (“the village”) to provide a safe, healthy environment for children, where they are given the security they need to develop and flourish, and to be able to realise their hopes and dreams.

Fostering Connections’ carers have opened their door and welcomed children and young people into their homes and have become instrumental in the life of the children in their care.

This is what one of our carers said about us. She has been a foster carer for over 30 years and transferred from another agency.

“Fostering Connections stand out from the crowd in all the right ways. I am not simply embraced and expertly supported as a foster carer but as a person. The young people who share my life are valued too and supported alongside me. Access to everyone whether over the phone, or in person, or through email is simple and personal. I feel safe and valued and seen.”

Reflective Practice group

We host a closed monthly group for our foster carers facilitated by Dr Katie Gulliver BSc (Hons), MSc, PGCert, PsychD, a Clinical Psychologist. Her specialist areas of interest include developmental and complex trauma and working with children in care and the system around them.

The group offers a time for our carers to reflect and chat about shared experiences.

This is what one of our carers had to say about our Reflective Practice groups.

“It has played a large part of our journey and given us a space to speak about difficult issues.”

It is important to us that we meet all carers, and they have access to the whole team.  We walk beside our carers on their fostering journey. We are available 24/7 and all carers have out of hours contact numbers to speak to one of our social workers.

We feel that this is what makes us unique as a caring and supporting fostering agency.

One of our carers said when she joined us from another agency:

“The support has been everything we hoped for and more. Knowing that there is always someone at the end of a phone, to help us has been invaluable.”
